Madeline Island Featured Among "World's Most Secret Islands" by Smarter Travel and the Chicago Tribune
Madeline Island (LaPointe, Wisconsin, part of the Apostle Islands of Lake Superior) topped the list, followed by:
-Tangier Island, Virginia
-Staniel Cay, Bahamas
-Fernando de Noronha, Brazil
-Isle of Mull, Scotland
-Pulau Ubin, Maylaysia
-Koh Yao Yai, Thailand
-Ile de Ray, France
-Salt Spring Island, British Columbia
Madeline Island has made news in the Chicago Tribune before, beginning with an article by Alan Solomon in the Tribune back in 1997 when Solomon featured Bayfield, Wisconsin and Madeline Island in an article entitled "best little town in the Midwest". Solomon praised the Island and Bayfield a decade later and since that time, publications across the United States have been taking a closer look at the Apostle Islands in Lake Superior.
Since the Tribune article, the Bayfield and Madeline Island area has made many such lists, including the Clean Beaches Council list of the top ten cleanest beaches in the United States, the Minnesota Monthly Magazine "best summer drives in the Midwest" list and the "best small towns in the United States" list.
I was pleased to note that Salt Spring Island (where my friend and island real estate specialist Li Read has her office) made the list. Li is one of the most savvy and inspiring island agents I've met anywhere in the world. I had the good fortune to meet Li when I was co-presenting a social networking class at the 2009 LuxuryRealEstate.com Spring Retreat in Las Vegas. It has always been a delight to follow her intriguing and appealing posts about Salt Spring Island.
