Thankful for so much in this country compared to others.
You know we really have it good in this country, and we have so much to be thankful for. We often focus on the things we don't have, and get caught up in the struggle to have more and more because we see others with it and think we need it. We are victims of our own consumer society which dictates that we have to keep buying to be happy.
I've been reading a e-book on the Kindle called You've Gone Too Far This Time, Sir! about a young English chap ( Danny Bent the author ) who takes a teaching job in India and decides to ride his bike from England to India, as a way of proving his "greeness" and also to raise money for charities. It's an incredible journey and a very personal account. He encounters people living in the most abject poverty with horrific sanitation and conditions, who think nothing of it. To them it's just business as usual. Small mountain villages, and teeming cities as well. I can not believe how some people survive this, let alone thrive and reproduce.
We take a lot for granted, basic things like clean water and schools. We grumble if things aren't perfect, clean and cheap and always available. At least we have the luxury of grumbling without fear. In other countries it's not so pretty. I am so thankful that I don't have to live like that.
Anyway, You've Gone Too Far This Time, Sir!
is an eye opener of a book if you haven't traveled through Russia and China and India.
Even though I'll be eating high off the hog this Thanksgiving holiday, I would be thankful for much less. Hoping you enjoy the holiday season.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!
Aloha from Maui...
