Winding down from a tough day, relaxing

After a TOUGH day, what do YOU do to get back in a good frame of mind/relax/wind down?  Do you read a book?  Take a long shower/bath?  Play with the kids?  Play with the dog?  Watch t.v.?  Maybe just eat and go to bed?  I had a tough day.  Now, I'm blogging, which is kinda working as a catharsis.  I still have troubles but I'm feeling better and those troubles don't seem as bad.  Maybe it's the time change--that always weirds me out.  It's one time during the day but it's really a different time!  That's enough to make anyone's head ache.

I USED to just think about some problem over and over and it seemed the problem would get bigger and bigger.  When I had a "real job" as a counselor, I would have called that "perseverating."  Now, I tend to handle things a little bit differently (see above).

So, what specific things do YOU do to feel better and recover from a trying day?  I'd like to hear from you.  Happy end of the weekend!

Lisa - I can totally relate to you on this.  I usually try to play with my kids, work on the house, take the dogs for a walk or sit and watch something brainless that may make me laugh.

Lisa - I have lots of different activities to relax. I wish I could say working out, but why lie (heck, that contributes to the stress 1/2 the time!). Seriously, reading a good fiction or sociology based book or meeting friends over dinner are my two favorite ways to blow off steam. However, when the going gets REALLY tough, I go journaling. I've had my journal for about 8+ years now, and like you're saying with the blogging, it totally allows me to flush out any bad feelings and helps me to sleep. But you gotta be careful writing things down about people or situations....I even have my journal willed to a specific individual should something bad happen.

Joe-Thanks for the comment.  Yes, playing with the kids is always interesting.  :)

Brandie-  Wow--when do you find the time to journal?!  But I think your comment about being careful when writing things about people and situations is a very good idea.  Sometimes I forget and type EXACTLY what I feel like typing when blogging, which is probably a no-no.  Your cautious point is very well-taken.  Thanks for the reminder!

Like others, I have a wide variety of  clearing activities.  I find that some really wonderful music (Bethoven's 9th, Verdi Requiem) can refocus me pretty quickly.

A trip to the meditation room even more so.

Having my Parrot, Izzy sit on my shoulder so I can rub his head is good too.

But on occasion, it's a well chilled, Chopin Vodka Martini.

Lisa - I do a lot of things. If I really want to clear my mind I'll watch a funny old movie, or take long walks, exercise or conversely eat some cake or ice cream, go for a run, have a gorgeous dinner or go to the spa.  Danielle

I love on my family and my babies.  The 4 strays we picked up over the years.   I do minor chores around the house ( I'm not handy )  I read and I blog.  Football!  Cleaning the house, heck I live in the country, I feed my chickens and burn garbage!
