I grew up in a large family. A VERY large family! And Thanksgiving was always celebrated with both reverence and revelry!
As if the twelve of us were not enough, mother always cooked for grandparents on both sides, and at least one aunt and uncle and a slew of cousins that varied from year to year but always seemed to fill every nook and cranny of the brick house on Isolda Drive!
You can only imagine the constant din generated by such a tribe of partiers, glad to have a day off from school and work and bent on savoring every flavor and accouterment that the holiday had to offer!
And with each passing Thanksgiving, even though the memories of those good times grow dimmer and more distant, there is even more reason to pause and give thanks for all of the wonderful things that I have had the incredible to fortune to enjoy.
This has been a particularly good year in so many ways. I am thankful for my wife and my daughter and grateful for their constant outpouring of love, inspiration, and encouragement.
I was also able to spend time with my brothers and discovered that even though a lot of time has passed since the days of our youth, we really haven’t changed all that much!
Whether we are together or not in the same room, we are still a family and although we are spread around the country, we are all together as one.
And so this Thanksgiving will be just like all of the others that occurred before.
But it will be a lot quieter!
