What If ...
As I ponder all the reasons why I am thankful today, I cannot help but recall an experience I had last week. You see … last week ... I met Matthew. Matthew is 3 years and is the only child born to his parents. On the surface, Matthew seems like a normal 3 year old. He is vibrate and beautiful and with the exception of the brace around his neck, he seems like a regular kid.
But in actuality, little Matthew is not exactly what we would consider normal. You see, Matthew cannot speak. He will be 4 years old in January and has not uttered a word since birth. For his parents, it is heart wrenching! For Matthew, it is extremely frustrating because he is unable to communicate his wants and desires to his parents. He tries to speak but is yet unable to do. What is even more frustrating for Matthew is his lack of understanding. He is only 3 years old. Therefore, he cannot fully understand his limitations.
What If ...
... you lived in a world where your voice was silenced … or your only child's voice was silenced … would you still be thankful today?
As you spend time with family and friends on this Thanksgiving Day, let us not forget the Matthews of the world. And ... if you could find a moment to say a small prayer for little Matthew in this story, I would greatly appreciate it.
Happy Thanksgiving!
