Black Friday...My first!

By
Real Estate Agent with Atlanta Communities 303302

After years of scoffing at family and friend who like to shop on the Friday after Thanksgiving, I joined in to see what it was like last night. At 10pm my family and I ventured out into the melee that is called, Black Friday.

You see, it all started with a TV advertised at Wal-Mart that my younger daughter had to have for her college dorm room. Yes, a dazzling 40" LCD TV that was just the ticket. And the Wal-Mart was just down the street and around the corner. Can we go Pleeze, she begged!!! I relented and said I would go with her.

Her story is a bit different in this matter. She would tell you I was even more excited about getting one of these prizes, but its my story. Since these TVs were to be sold at 12pm midnight, we ventured out at 10pm to see what we could see. When we got there all she could say was, OMG!

The vast Wal-Mart parking lot was filled to the brim with people. What in the world were they there for, I wondered. Why would sane people come out to Wal-Mart at 10 pm on Thanksgiving? Well, we entered the store and after 20 minutes or so we found the line for the TVs we wanted and ended up waiting for 1 1/2 hours more, but we got our TVs!

To bring this back to a Real Estate theme, I'll bet this is the way new home buyers feel. The anticipation of the purchase. The feeling that unless they hurry they could lose their deal of a lifetime! Then the final moment when the closing is done and the keys are handed over! So you see, I was just training myself to better understand my clients needs, it had nothing to do with the TV. It is a beauty though!

Have a great day!

Nice cover up! I have 2 college daddy girls. I would feel like a king getting them the prize and converting the time in line to dollars per sqare foot savings.

Good morning Peter. Sorry, but I would get a root canal before going to Wallmart on Thanksgiving. I believe that if the TV were a priority, you could have found it mid week somewhere for about the same money and if not.....oh well. I'm not sure buyers feel this way, I wish they did but I'm not seeing it. Enjoy your day, you must be tired.

My family has been doing it for years. Truth be told, it's more my husband and our teens. However, yesterday, for the first time, certain stores opened at 10:00 or 12:00 and that I could handle. I'd rather stay up late from the night before than get up at 3:00 in the morning. All in all, time well spent. We came home with a printer, a computer chair and some sneakers and other clothing items.

I noticed there were some actual deals this year but I just couldn't get out among the throngs of bargain shoppers.  My wife and mother went out and witnessed a couple of door bustings, I was content with the iphone photos they sent me...

Peter, you are so brave, I have never danced into Black Friday frenzy.  It is because you are a great dad that you went into the den of shoppers at the most hectic moment.  And then you spun it into a positive learning experience too.  The lucky home buyers and sellers you serve in Woodstock Georgia are so lucky to have you represent them.
