It's all about Main Street, USA...

If you grew up on a small street in a small town you likely learned young to appreciate the small enticing stores on Main Street, USA. You know the ones I'm talking about.

It could be Kemper Drug... the place to stop in for a candy or Gramma's medicine.

It could be The Old Main Eatery, Sunshine Depot, Pompeii Neapolitan Pizzaria or Daddy-O's Cafe... all small town eateries supporting downtown visitors.

Perhaps you prefer Diamond City Bread and it's unique staircase into ancient Elk River (underground). The many flavors of daily made bread go a long way toward special as well!

The old antique store houses and hosts many dealers and small town business owners trying to support their passion for the past and how it fits in today's world.

Or, a stop by Sweet Pea's for a candy or flavored icecream cone?

All are small businesses.... and today (Small Business Saturday) is the day that we are encouraged to support them. Step back in time and remember the little people. The folks that work so hard to run a business... make a living... support a family. If you get the chance to step back in time and head down to Main Street it's be a great way to celebrate today.

If nothing else taking a stroll down Main Street, USA should provide some ambiance to the season with flags, lights, and decor celebrating the upcoming holiday season!

Lindsey, I shall take a stroll down the main street in my little town of Newport RI. and revisit many lovely small businesses. And I may drive over to Wickford R.I as well, as there are so many lovely small shops devoted to the Christmas Holiday situated on the main street. Happy Holidays!

THat's so great. I wrote several posts about local stores this past week.  We really need to stop with the big-box everything and start shopping Main St which gives so much more to the community.

I would MUCH rather stroll down this type of street. These shops just have an extra dose of TLC (not to mention alot of sweat and tears behind them most likely). Loved the post!

Lindsey, I remember those small businesses well.  The ones we walked to always had what we needed and the owners ended up being friends.  I hope Small Business Saturday was a national success!

Bringing you home...

Chuck - Hope you got your candy fix taken care of! And, yes, they are all great businesses to support.

Carlotta - That sounds lovely! I hope that you enjoy your stroll.

Randi - Living in a small town is a great way to support local industry.

Joni! Wouldn't that be awesome!

Michael - Zimmerman could use a refreshment on businesses. You are right that there isn't much left.

Laura - The unique has it's place doesn't it? And, thanks for the subscribe! I hope that you continue to enjoy my blog!

RuthMarie - Honestly, I really get tired of the box stores.... sometimes I like the smallish stores that aren't so hard to meander.

Colleen - I worked at a local flower shop for awhile and I can attest to the sweat and tears. The small unique business owner's put their hearts into their work.

So true Donald. They are visionaries and we need them!

Thank you Sandy!

Thank you Joy!

Mike - That is one of the best part of local business. The owners DO become friends. They get to know their clientele and take good care of them.

Karen - I hope that you get the chance to stroll down your Main Street! Enjoy!
