Notice my blog title said house instead of home? When working with buyers, real estate agents typically refer to your purchase as a home. When working with sellers, they often refer to it as a house. There is a reason for this. Buying real estate is an emotional decision. If you are the seller, you need to remove the emotion from the equation. Think of your home as a marketable commodity (property, real estate). It is your goal to get the potential buyers to see it as their potential home.
Put these on your MUST DO list when getting your St. Louis House ready to sell.
Depersonalize your house. You want St. Louis buyers to view your house as their potential home. When a potential homebuyer sees your family photos hanging on the wall, it puts your families brand on the home. You don't want the buyer to make a connection with you and the house. Pack up family photo's, sports trophies, collectible items, knick-knacks and souvenirs. Rent a storage space and put your boxed items in there. You want to remove clutter from the house to create space.
Kitchen Clutter. Get everything off the counters. Put away that coffee maker and toaster. Organize your cabinets and pack items that are rarely used. Homebuyers will open the cabinets and drawers. They want to be sure there is enough room for their things. The best way to promote an image of plenty of storage space is to create as much empty space as possible.
Closet Clutter. Again, creating empty space will give the appearance of more space. Pack clothes, personal items and shoes that are out of season.
Furniture Clutter. You want to give every room the illusion of space. Check out a builder's model home to see how they place furniture. Move extra furniture to the storage unit.
Storage Area Clutter. Basements, garages, attics and sheds accumulate clutter and junk. Remove anything that is not essential and take it to storage or have a garage sale. Less to move is even better!
