Favorite Sweet Shops and Bakeries in the Carlsbad CA Area
Friends and family who know me are well aware of my penchant for sugary concoctions, especially if chocolate is involved. I’ve never met a chocolate I didn’t like, so far, although the better quality the chocolate the happier I am.
Chocolates, desserts, and baked goods go hand in hand, in my opinion, and knowing where to go to get them, when making something simply is not on the agenda or laziness sets it, or just because, is essential.
So, with that in mind, and to satisfy other sweet fanciers in the Carlsbad area, I present just a few of my favorite sweet shops and bakeries. In no particular order, and with apologies to those places I have yet to discover (and, yes, I will). If you are a local reader with suggestions, by all means share!
ELIZABETHAN DESSERTS – Encinitas
Elizabeth creates amazing delectables year-round and I would be hard pressed to say which are my faves, although the red velvet cupcakes and the lemon squares are right up there. Located at the Sunshine Gardens nursery in Encinitas at 155 Quail Gardens Drive near the beach. Check out her website, too.
THE FRENCH BAKERY AND CAFÉ – Carlsbad Village
Terrific croissants, tarts, crème-filled things, napoleons, pies and so muchmore. I haven’t tried their food since I can’t get past the desserts. Reminds me of places in Paris. Located at 1005 Carlsbad Village Drive just west of the 5 freeway. Visit their Facebook page.
THE CARLSBAD CHOCOLATE BAR – Carlsbad Village
Now this is a delectable chocolate shop, dedicated to my fave food group. Part of Le Passage French Bistro, this wonderful shop in the heart of Carlsbad Village is well worth a visit – after dinner, before dinner, in lieu of dinner, or anytime you have a craving for chocolate…and who doesn’t?! The shop was next door to the restaurant but is now strategically located at the corner of State Street and Carlsbad Village Drive so you can’t miss it. If you don’t walk out with a bag of chocolates you have a serious problem. Seek therapy. Check out their website. Located at 2998 State Street.
