It seems that now we have a special shopping day for every kind of business entity. The Monday after Thanksgiving is designated as “Cyber Monday” and many online merchants are having huge online sales today.
I have mixed feelings about buying merchandise online. I love the convenience and the ability to shop price, but I always fear that I am taking money out of my community by not supporting local merchants.
After a lot of soul searching I have construed a conscious conscience compromise. I only purchase products online that I am unlikely to find locally.
That would entail regional specialty items that are simply not for sale in Newnan Georgia, or very specific parts and accessories for appliances and electronics that are impossible to stock in a retail store.
Perhaps my choice to purchase locally when possible is just a drop in the economic bucket.
But it’s a start. And if others choose to do the same, it can really make a difference!
