The sidewalk to nowhere

Sidewalk

The sidewalk to nowhere

Some wackiness just can't wait for Wednesday!

Now..... can anyone tell me how the heck this owner thought this was a good idea?

I can hear him now..."Hey- I know what'll make this place look better and stand out- let's get rid of that silly front door there!"

But....let's leave the awning there- in case we want to hang out the window or something...

And what once was a pretty good entryway becomes...The sidewalk to nowhere

Dennis - have they barricaded inside? Making it a one way home ... Very strange, of course.

Maybe this was a back door at one time; I don't see any house number. Have to wonder what the inside looks like!

You really cannot make this stuff up... people just have to learn for themselves the HARD way!  Making "personalized" modifications to your home may not benefit you at the point of resale, no matter fond you are of the layout.  Fortunately, as you mentioned, they left the coverage over the new window for a dry egress if necessary.

Dennis - I don't think anything that people do to their homes surprises me anymore.  I'm sure they thought it was a good idea at the time.

Dennis, I guess they thought the back door was enough!

Hi, Jon:  Thank you for stopping by, as always.  No, the geniuses also closed in what was once  their carport and fashioned a side door for themselves- which then became their "front door".  Crazy...

Hi, John:  Thank you for stopping by, and for your comment.  This happens to be a place where the owner called a buddy of mine up and wanted him to manage it.  I met hm over there and checked the place out- so I was inside, too.  The other side of the "former door" is a standard living room.

Hi, AJ/Jodee:  Thank you for stopping by, and for your comment.  Yeah, this guy took things a bit past any Winnie the Pooh borders or non-slip fish things for the bathtub.  His "personalization" says "classy"!  Another thought we had today was that this might work as some drive-through window of sorts- kind of how you're sort-of sheltered at McDonald's when you order.  Now..what could they ever sell out of this window?  Hmmm...

Hi, Jim:  Thank you for dropping by.  I've learned that I still can be surprised by things- which I think is good in some ways.  I'm still learning!

There was a guy in my mother's neighborhood, no HOA, who was a POW in Vietnam.  He came home to his mother's house and inherited it.  He did exactly that to the front door, boarded up all the windows and had only one defendable entrance into the house - the back door.  He came out once a month to buy food.  I don't know what he did to live, but felt so sorry for him.  Sometimes it is hard to determine why people do what they do, but often it is for reasons!

At least they painted the blocks!

Pine Hills right?  Selling their wares right through the front window.  Customers can walk up and buy their items and leave.  Pretty funny photo.  Good one Dennis.

Hi, Jay:  Thank you for stopping by, and for your comment.  This guy that had the place obviously had his reasons- still don't yet know what they were.. Good idea about the "one defendable entrance", though- may be the case!

Hi, Rob:  Thank you for stopping by, and for your comment.  Exactly the thought.  I wonder why he didn't keep going with the pad and make a whole drive-thru lane.  Not Pine Hills (though a good guess, of course).  It's on Julio Lane- off Semoran just North of Curry Ford...same conditions, though.

Hi, John:  Thank you for stopping by and commenting.  Funny thing is that there's not a back door, either.  There's a side door that remains from the guy's enclosing a carport, but that's it.  Ugh..

Hi, Ronald:  Thank you for dropping by.  I can't imagine what it looked like around here 30,40,50 years ago.  I hear a lot of stories of the growth here, and it's amazing.

Some things haven't changed, though.  When I was here for Navy boot camp in '87, the Navy banned us from Orange Blossom Trail because it was such a seedy thoroughfare.  Today, it's an even seedier thoroughfare.
