What exactly is an outside courner lot?  Any good buys near RPI?  My kid is graduate school there with a lease through August...

Hi Debbie,

To picture an outside corner lot think of a square and then picture a home sitting on the outside corner of the square.  It's very private (road doesn't continue along the side of the house) and gives you a ton of yard space!

There are a lot of great buys in the RPI area.  If your son is thinking of investing in Real Estate, it's a great time.  Well managed college rentals will bring income for years to come and with prices in the area being down there won't be a better time for him to make this investment.  Plus, if he's buying to live there after his lease is up he will qualify for owner occupied financing!  Give me a call, I would love to help him out and of course, send you a referral.  518-209-6447

We will make a decision closer to summer about whether he is going to buy or rent an apartment.  He pays $650 month for an apartment with all utilities from RPI.  He earns $18000/year and should qualify for ~$85000- -$95000 home (depending on taxes, insurance and HOA).  He was intrigued with the idea last summer.  I will talk him out over the break.  He would need something where he could share with his friends and perhaps convert to a rental after he graduates.  It must be within easy walking distance to RPI because he doesn't drive.

The rent RPI charges for the 3 bedroom apartment is excessive.  Jon will not be in Troy until late January when classes resume.  If he decides to purchase a home I will come out to help him with the decision.  I also went to school at RPI and remember many of the house being very old and not is very good shape.  Jon is a mathematician and knows nothing about home maintenance. This could come to nothing but I would like to know what is possible.

Have a good Christmas.
