Well at least it's getting colder and as we all know in Nebraska it can get downright fridgid out there!

With the colder temperatures it is time to turn on the heating otherwise deal with pnuemonia. Have you already done a pre-winter check to make sure everything is working correctly and you aren't losing heat and money right out those windows?

Here are some quick tips to save heat and money this winter!

  1. Turn down the thermostat just a couple extra degrees and save up to 5% in your bill.
  2. Make sure you have replaced your air filter and check it throughout the winter (it should be done once a month!).
  3. Seal all leaks, Caulk is your best friend. Don't just check windows and doors but sockets and pipes as well!
  4. Insulate water pipes and turn down your water heater.
  5. As always you can update to EnergyStar applicances.

There are always more things that can be done beyond these such as:

  • Rearrange furniture to be away from outdoor walls
  • Cut your showers in half saving almost 33% in the bill
  • If you have a fireplace keep it shut when not in use and when you do use it close off outer rooms to keep the heat centralized where you are
  • Only use the dishwasher and clothes washer when full loads, wash clothes in cold water when possible!
