Gita Bantwal, from Central Bucks County, has written an excellent post on safety tips for sellers. While Gita focused on young families, her points are well taken and can apply to every seller. Please leave a comment on Gita's blog, I know she will appreciate it very much.

Safety Tips for home sellers who have young kids.

When you list your home for sale the agent will take photos of all the rooms.

Take down all photos of your young children especially infants and toddlers. You do not want their pictures showing up on the internet . You might want to request the agent not to take photo of the baby's nursery. There are plenty of other rooms that they can photograph.

Sometimes strangers may knock on your door when they see the 'For Sale'  sign and ask to see the house.

Instruct them to call their agent or your agent to make an appointment to see your home.

If they say they are an agent , ask them to show their business card and do not let them in if they have not scheduled an appointment . If it is convenient for you to show when they do not have an appointment ,  ask them to call your agent  first and then let them in so the agent knows about it.

If your home is located in a secluded area,  be careful with open houses. It is better to have agents show the home to their clients. Strangers come to open houses .

Parents of young kids usually have  activity schedules on the refrigerator. Please remove these as well. You should not let strangers see your schedules of when you will not be in the house. A home can be burglarized in  just a couple of hours .

I have done a few open houses in secluded areas.  Often I will take my husband along and he reads a book.  I have been very scared a few times.  Especially when they come at the end of the open house.  These are wonderful reminders of how to keep yourself as safe as you possibly can.
