We're Having A Heatwave!

By

sunshine in MaineMainers woke up to the very strange news that Bangor Maine had the highest temperature in the lower 48 this morning.  In fact, it seems that this November may have been the warmest on record for us.

Not earth shattering news, just an odd feeling for us up here.  In Auburn Maine today, the sun has made an appearance and we woke up to 54 degrees and the last remnants of our 14 inches of snow melted away.  We're not complaining.  I must admit it has been nice to have a bit more time to prepare for winter.

One side benefit to those of us in real estate has been the ability to install and remove signs easily.  We usually have to get them in or out of the ground by the end of November since the ground freezes.

A big thank you to whatever gave us this break this year.  Home buyers are able to continue looking at homes without suiting up in their Nanook of the North gear, and sellers are able to enjoy a little less plowing and shoveling to keep their homes accessible.

We'll enjoy it while it lasts and then we'll also have fun with the snow when it finally comes to stay.

Kristen - I do seem to recall it wasn't all that long ago (about 10 months) that you were looking forward to the warm up!  I'll admit - there are many things about the east coast that appeal to me .... but the weather isn't one of them!  Have a great holiday season!

Kristen, don't tell me that you don't enjoy trudging through knee high snow to hammer signs into the rock-hard ground. isn't that what real estate is all about in the North Country?

Until today when it started to drop, we were walking around in 65 degrees at the end of November! For me, it's just so much easier to get stuff done, Glorious!

Kristen-I love the south for their milder temps in the winter. The trade off is a VERY HOT summer. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving and the rest of your holiday season is joyous.

It's been so cold here in Southern California that I don't know if the crop of tomatoes I planted in October is going to make it!  It's actually been below 50 degrees at night.  Brrrr!  Sorry to hear about the difficulty of frozen ground and installing/removing signs.

Thank you Carmela.  You Too!

LOL Jack!  I do like the weather here, but must admit, this little break has been nice.  I need all of my seasons...in their correct order.  At least here, once winter hits, we know it will stay until mud season.  It brings a nice order to things.

Too funny Malcolm.  I know, challenges do keep things interesting.  Peoople around here have come up with all sorts of clever sign holders with nice wide "feet," but even those get frozen in.  Don't you just especially love showing remote vacation homes that never see a plow?  :-)

I agree Jill.  It has been lovely.  Everyone seems to have a lot of energy.

Sharon:  I wouldn't be able to handle the heat.  I guess I figure at least with the cold, you can get a fire going and keep warm.  I melt in the heat, but every once in a while, it sounds like a good idea to me.

OK, Bob, first I'm trying to wrap my head around planting tomatoes in October.  Wonderful!  I just heard about the winds out there.  I hope you and yours are alright.

Yes, the walks along the Kennebec Rail Trail will be coming to an end soon ... trying to enjoy the last of the "walking weather"

You betcha Tanya!  We'll keep taking advantage of it as long as it lasts.  Of course, I seem to remember you guys snowshoeing when the "walking weather" was gone.  You Mainer, you!

You're probably right Stacey-Ann.  This new years day here was another balmy one.  We'll all enjoy it while it lasts.
