Yes, I Know It's Not Kansas -- But It Was A Windy Night in Pasadena CA and the San Gabriel Valley

I am well aware that to the outside world, Californians are often accussed of being somewhat wimpy when it comes to difficult weather situations.   Well, we had some pretty wild winds overnight in the Pasadena, California area and throughout the foothills of the San Gabriel Valley.  Some reports stated the winds were up to 100 miles per hour.   Others have said nothing like this has occurred in over fifty years.   Many said they couldn't sleep.   Animals were restless.

It was certainly not business as usual today.   Power is still out for many.  Businesses closed.   Schools shuttered.   And then there were the trees......   Our area is known for the many majestic trees lining our streets...it was sad to see many had fallen overnight.

If you need to travel .... do so safely.   Schools in Pasadena, South Pasadena, Arcadia, Duarte, Temple City and Monrovia will be closed Friday, December 2 to allow time for additional clean-up.  La Canada Flintridge students will be notified Friday morning.   Surprisingly, it was reported that San Marino Unified Schools will be open -- even though many in the city are still without power.

Michael  -- mother nature is really at work this autumn.  We still have not cleaned up entirely from the freak snow storm in October.  I hope you stay safe and that everyone is out of harms way.

Albuquerque is getting what you got last night... UGH!  Winds 88 MPH and 36º now.  The later in the night the worse it's suppose to get.  The winds have wrecked our backyard.  Parts of the city is without power and roofs have been turned over.  Of course sand is blowing so hard it cuts the skin so we're pretty much inside for the night.  Mother Nature.......Paying us back for all we do to her perhaps?

Oh my goodness!  I was talking to a friend in Los Angeles last night and she told me about the hurricane winds and I said the same exact thing, "Wait, this isn't Kansas we're talking about here!"  Hope all is well with you and yours and that you have your power back and that life returns to some sense of normalcy tomorrow.

Joan - you are right, across this country we have experienced some pretty interesting(and at times pretty wild) weather occurences recently.

John - your comment reminds me of that classic television commercial from many years ago -- it's not nice to fool Mother Nature, is it?   I hope the wind does not cause any mishaps.

Debe - the prediction from the weather forecasters is that there will be wind again tonight but not as bad as last night.

Roger - I'm lucky as there is still power in my neighborhood but some of the surrounding areas have not fared as well.

The late news just said we're now under a winter storm watch / warning.  I think that Mother Nature commercial wasn't too far off.  Paybacks!

Will - the winds have calmed but there are still alot of trees and power lines(not to mention power in some areas) that need to be cleared.

Michael.  Boy this is crazy.  i guess I really can't complain about a little snow when you are dealing with this type of damage from the wind.  Hold on to your hat.

Hi Belinda - the forecast is for some more wind but not as intense -- I'll hold my hat if you keep your snow boots handy.

I am so thankful that your own property wasn't damaged, Michael.  Not only are these storms scary, but they are so inconvenient in all the work it takes to repair what Mother Nature blew down or away.

I watch Jay Leno and I see he keeps talking about this. I can't believe how much wind you are getting. Let's just hope the rains don't follow!

Todd P - thanks so much.

Todd C - well, we had some light sprinkles and today it is in the 80s.   Strange weather all across the globe it seems.

I can't even imagine that.  We had winds up to 45 mph Thanksgiving night....and that was enough to make me wonder.

Hi Ron -- we're approaching the one year anniversary of this horrific wind -- it was definitely powerful and we are still seeing the results of too many of the area's trees destroyed.
