Refinishing hardwood floors - saved another customer some money - Pelham NY 10803

Hardwood floors for kitchen Pelham NY 10803This week, I met with the parents of one my customers.  We had done 3 jobs for them and now their parents were interested in refinishing the floors for the rental in the apartment below theirs (it is a duplex in Pelham NY).

The parents have lived in Pelham for 38 years, and they did not speak English well.  They wanted to refinish the hardwood floors for most of the area, and they wanted to replace the old/worn peel & stick tiles in the entryway/kitchen - with something that wouldn't cost too much (since it is a rental + they will probably sell the house in 5-7 yrs).

As I started to explore, I noticed that a closet had hardwood...then, I remembered the kids' apartment in Hartsdale from 2 years ago...over 20 yrs ago the father had put vinyl in the entryway to "protect" the hardwood (ironic, right?).  I thought that was odd, and it came back to me.  We then peeled off some ivnyl tiles and the plywood underneath and lo and behold there was hardwood underneath!

The father was old, it was such a long time ago...that he forgot there was hardwood underneath!  They were thrilled because I was able to save them a lot of money.  Plus, hardwood is a heck of a lot better and more preferred over peel and stick tile any day of the week.  It also makes the space look larger as they have 1 surface everywhere (except the bathroom).  They smiled even more when I told them it will eventually improve their selling value when they sell the house.

I love delivering good news like that.

Debbie -- I had to chuckle on this one. Years ago I came upon the same scenario. Homeowner used those peel and sticks to protect the hardwood.  They knew the h/w was under, though.  I can imagine these people must have been thrlled when you remembered and  uncovered their buried 'treasure'.

Hi Debbie - Isn't it almost as wonderful to deliver good news to those who appreciate it as it is to get good news of your own?  : )  Great job.

Debbie- great thinking!!!  That's what keeps your clients coming back to you.  I bet they're still telling their friends how you were the one to think about the possibility of hardwoods being under the tile!

Debbie once again does a great job and shows that if you give the best advice and not always try to make the big sale business will beat a path to your door. Nothing better than a repeat customer.
