15th Anniversary Bozeman Ice Climbing Festival is December 7 - 12, 2011 in both Hyalite Canyon and Downtown Bozeman, Montana.
Enjoy Bozeman ice-climbing, vendor booths, world-class shows, archived and modern ice climbing films.
According to Organizers, "The Bozeman Ice Festival is in a unique position to reflect back at the heritage of ice climbing with an eye toward the future."
The Ice Festival's Organizers are planning a once-in-a-lifetime event in 2011: ice-climbing great, Jeff Lowe, one of ice climbing's heroes, will attend! Be a part of this gathering in Bozeman's beautiful Hyalite Canyon (MAP below) and Emerson Crawford Theater and Ballroom, 111 South Grand Avenue, Bozeman!
Events may include:
Pat Callis doing a 40th Anniversary ascent of Hyalite Routes Genesis and Mummy II with his original gear!
Rare 16 mm film presented and narrated by both Jeff Lowe and Henry Barber of their climb, with Mike Weiss, of Vail, Colorado's Bridalveil Falls in the early 1970s. Bruce Hendricks will be speaking on his experiences with Banff’s Trophy Wall, an ice climbing site which redefined the sport time and again through the 1980s and 90s. Kris Erickson will discuss Alex Lowe's climb of “Winter Dance,” possibly Lowe's most difficult and spectacular climb!
Bozeman's Hyalite Canyon, an ice climbing mecca, boasts over 150 pitches of natural and easily accessible water ice and is often tauted as the premier ice climbing destination of the "lower 48 states." Due to an excellent collaboration among southwest Montana's public, the Federal US Forest Service, and Gallatin County County government, Hyalite Canyon is an extremely accessible, natural ice climbing venue, pretty much available anytime from the day the ice forms until to the end of March, when the road is closed for a time during the spring thaw.
