Are You Getting The Best Deal From USAA or Navy Federal Credit Union? Part 2

Real Estate Agent with HomeSmart Realty West Cal BRE#01427412

Are you getting the best deal from USAA or Navy Federal Credit Union? If you want to buy a house in San Diego, how can you get the best deal?   Many military personnel do not realize that they have options apart from the usual choices, like USAA and Navy Federal Credit Union.  They avoid looking beyond those two institutions for mortgage preapprovals.

Maybe they believe that strong ties to the military and rebates assure them of the very best deal.  Perhaps they simply do not trust other possibilities, like various banking institutions, for their home loans.

Here are the remaining three reasons why it is not in the best interest of a service member to overlook the many options available.

4. Real estate agents have to pay a fee out of their commissions because the referral comes through Cartus, a hiring firm.  Because of this, you may find yourself at the end of a realtor's priority list with little or no customer service.

5.  Mortgage processors working with USAA or NFCU will not be assigned to you until after you sign a contract.  You are stuck with what you get, since you had no say in the matter.  Building a relationship long before you contract with a mortgage processor makes the process smoother and more enjoyable.

6. Out of town mortgage processors unfamiliar with local transactions are often used. Misunderstandings can even cause delays in closing.  When you buy a house in San Diego you want to deal with professionals who understand the fine points of local area real estate.

For these reasons, consider doing some comparison shopping when you buy a house in San Diego. Working with an agent like Lorraine Santirosa who is experienced in working with military families in San Diego, can work out to be a better all-round deal.

I do a fair amount of VA mortgages in my practice. I have had many Vets, tell me that they were going to have USAA handle their insurance coverage. One of the value added items that I give them is names of home inspectors, insurance agents. Each time I have seem these clients get a quote from USAA and other companies, more times than not, the other companies are better priced.
