December’s Season of Celebrations & Sharing - Second Harvest Food Bank Family Sort Night
What better way to teach your children about the value of donating their time and skills than by leading by example. It is not often that younger children have the opportunity to volunteer along side their parents on activities to benefit the community and the outreach of so many of the great causes that are available in and around Nashville, TN.
There are a lot of faith based organizations that you could connect with and there is also many that are focused on specific goals like shelter, or hunger, or education. And I encourage you to find a place to offer some of your time and skills to give back if you have been fortunate to have spare time or gifts to help others. In Nashville we have a great organization known as Hands on Nashville that helps bring many of the places that need volunteers and gets them in touch with volunteers and fund raising efforts. The website is well laid out and is easy for you to visit and find opportunities that match your schedule and skills.
One particular event that Hands on Nashville has posted opn their site struck a chord with me today as it allows for parents to lead by example and volunteer right along side their children. That opportunity is at the Second Harvest Food Bank in Nashville. My family served there at this event last year and we will make plans to do so again this year for the family sort night.
I encourage you to visit the website and sign up if you are in Nashville and want to share with your children the experience of volunteering to a great cause to help eliminate hunger. This single outreach logged over 55,000 volunteer hours in 2010.
