The World on a Strong - Art Exhibit at the Cannon Art Gallery in Carlsbad CA

Don’t miss “The World on a String,” the current art exhibit at the Cannon Art Gallery in Carlsbad CA, running through December 30, 2011.

The World on a String is a stunning, whimsical collection of puppets from around the world, a glimpse in the Alan Cook Collection of the International Puppetry Museum in Southern California in Pasadena. The World on a String exhibit showcases over 200 puppets spanning multiple decades, countries, and styles, a wonderful history of puppetry - shadow puppets, hand puppets, rod puppets, marionettes and Japanese Bunraku puppets.

Most of us no doubt remember being entertained by puppets of one sort of another while growing up, and a visit to this amazing exhibit recalls those times. Remember Punch and Judy? Yep, they are part of this collection, too.

The photos say it all!

It's amazing how a puppeteer can make puppets come to life.  I can't imagine the hours and hours of practice it takes.

I love these puppets. Puppeteers used to be regular guests on the old "Ed Sullivan Show" ... I used to enjoy those shows immensely! This post brought back childhood memories. Nice. 8-)

Jeff I have never been to a puppet show, but it is something that I think I would enjoy if I got the chance to go to one.

Jeanne and Ralph -I'll say. I was reading about the big Japanese puppets which was handled by 2-3 puppeteers. The training to be the major puppeteer takes 30 years!

Frances - yeah, I remember those days. Do you remember Lamb Chop and that cast of characters?

William - it is an amazing show - I woulc have stayed for an hour or more.

George - they are pretty interesting, and some I have seen are incredibly impressive.
