This morning I was cleaning out my brief case and found a brochure about Texas Unclaimed Property Money. I was ready to toss the brochure in the trash because my luck on getting money or winning money was very slim. Once in a great while, I will play a Texas Scratch Off Ticket or try for the the big bucks on the Texas Lottery but never have I won anything over $50.00. After a quick glimpse of the brochure and reading the big bold letters "COME AND GET IT" I was ready to give it a try.
I went to the website (www.ClaimItTexas.org) and just typed my name and the state I resided in and hit the submit button..... Woozers! I was listed, not once but twice. Yippeee... , I was in the Money! No, it was not the Mega Millions or in the thousands but I had two claims over $100.00. Now, to claim the money, I thought it would be this long drawn out process, but really it was not. Just a few simple questions about me and my identity and the form was submitted. It was EASY.
Now what are you waiting for? If you are a Texas residence or ever have resided in Texas, take a second to check out the Texas Unclaimed Property website. I am sure glad I did this morning. The state of Texas is currently holding more than $2 billion in cash and other valuables waiting for the rightful owners to claim.
Hmmm, I am gonna have to check this out. I probably don't have anything coming to me, but wouldn't it be nice if I did :)?!
Stephanie...I recently found $14 from the MA unclaimed property site. Hey, not a ton but it will buy me lunch!
Brenda- I thought the same so you need to take a second and visit the website.
Christine- Congrats on the $14. You are right it will buy lunch and maybe a coffee.
Hey Stephanie, this is funny. I tried it out and there is $29.35 sitting there in my husband's name.
Thanks for sharing. You Rock!
Mrs Mike- About four weeks. That is awesome you had some funds coming your way!
Thank you and thank you for your response. This sounds much better than the claim verification status posted on their website:
Due to the overwhelming success of our efforts to locate unclaimed property owners, it could take 3 to 4 months before we perform an initial review of most claims. However, the initial review process for claims filed for businesses, heirships, stock and/or mineral properties can take up to 6 months or longer.
Fingers crossed!
