Corruption in Real Estate

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Distinctive / LIC in VA

Glengarry Glen Ross (1992) – A film about a real-estate office and its strict incentives for its salesmen to close leads, leading to corrupt behavior.

First prize for salespersons is a Cadilac El Derado, ( do they still make those?) 2nd prize is a box of cheap steak knives, 3rd prize is being fired.

Has anyone ever seen this movie? Why does it sound like it could be a true story in todays market and real estate atmoshere? Has anyone else noticed an increase in agents being more rude, pushy, and unethical during 2011? Just saying!

Jeff,

Nope, i have not watched that movie. Did not even know that it existed. But thanks, to you I am going to get my hands on it and watch it. I haven't come across any overly aggressive type "A's" lately. They usually get what's coming to them in the end...Wayne

Hi Wayne- If you copy and paste the link I posted you can see a trailer of the movie. Lots of good well known actors ( mostly men for some reason) in this movie. Not long ago, owner of one of my listings that expired, but I had extended listing agreement but hadn't updated MLS yet, called me to let me know an agent had called her and was talking very loudly to her and pressuring ( practically threatening her) to relist their property with him, and told her she was crazy not to list with him, that he was the only agent that could sell the property, blah, blah. When she told him she was sticking with their current agent ( me) he yelled at her and told her she didn't know what the hell she was doing, etc. Then he just hung up on her. She told me afterwards that she would never do business with that company after that. I wonder how many agents like that cost their companies listings?
