Plans for Saturday? You can hit the King William Home Tour.

Here’s your once-a-year chance to get a peek at what’s behind the grand porches and gingerbread woodwork in the King William Historic District.

The King William Association’s annual holiday home tour is 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Tickets cost $15 in advance at the King William Association Office at 1032 S. Alamo, or $20 on the day of the tour at 401 King William and 332 Adams Street.

This year the tickets are a really good deal because the tour includes Villa Finale, the former home of preservationist Walter Nold Mathis that is operated by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. (It’s the first National Trust property in Texas, and general admission tickets to see the lovely Villa Finale usually cost $10).

Authors Patricia and Katherine McMillan also will be at Villa Finale from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. to sign their book, Decorating for Christmas at Historic Houses. Villa Finale is one of the homes featured in the book. A limited number of books will be for sale.

But wait, there’s more.

The only other Texas home in the book is the LBJ Ranch in Stonewall, and so Luci Baines Johnson will be a guest at the book signing.
