Perhaps one of the most popular holiday traditions is The Nutcracker Ballet- a tale so magical it just never gets old. Dancing snowflakes, fierce battles, a handsome prince, and candy galore are all reasons why this is a favorite year after year.
For those of you who don’t know the story- it begins on Christmas Eve. A welathy family welcomes guests to their annual Chrismas Party. Their young children, a boy and girl, laugh and play with all the kids under the most exquisite tree money can buy. As the evening continues gifts are exchanged, and the young girl recieves a nutcracker doll which becomes the hit of the party. Filled with jealousy, her brother breaks the doll- but it is restored by the mysterious guest who brought it. After everyone has left the party and gone to bed the girl sneaks downstairs to check on her doll and falls asleep with it in her arms. When the clock strikes midnight, strange things begin to happen… and the adventure begins!
We are fortunate to have several performances of The Nutcracker in and around the Charlotte area. One of my favorites is the Piedmont Dance Theatre, which performs in Salisbury (December 17th and 18th) with a live Symphony! Check their website for tickets and details!
