Today I read a fellow active Rain post wondering if other Realtors can really take a full day off:
I"ve taken many days off without checking email, answering my phone, or doing anything related. How? By giving myself permission to do so.
I changed my voice mail, switched email to auto response, and updated my phone message.
Here is an example:
"Due to the Thanksgiving weekend I would be back in the office on Monday and hope everyone was enjoying time with their family. "
I gave people to call me if there was an emergency but if it could wait until Monday I would appreciate it.
Unfortunately it took the passing of my dad this year to realize I didn't want a legacy of being available 24/7 to my clients and having my family always so "I didn't want to bother you", or "you're so busy"
A lot of our parents raise us with good work ethics but they didn't prepare us to live in a world with technology that makes it easy for us to work non- stop because life was different back then.
If you want a day off, give it a try. You've got another big holiday around the corner. I have to say, financially this has been an awesome year so the question I now ask is, do we really need to work 24/7?
What's your plan for 2012. A new year, a new start. Will you be working 24/7?
