I was walking down our Main Street last Sunday, along with many others, and noticed all the trees were turning color and the leaves are starting to fall. This is the first sign of my most favorite time of year. Benicia is a small town were everyone is very friendly. The first Friday of December our town turns magical. First Street closes down and we have our tree lighting, all the stores are decorated to the hilt, not to mention the whole street. The shops invite you in with the smells of hot-mulled wine and Christmas Cookies. Everyone comes downtown and walks around saying HI to friends they have not seen in a while, Carolers are singing, the High School Band is playing, there is a hay ride for everyone and you can always hear their happy voices singing Christmas Carols. The following weekend Santa Comes to town on one of our Big Red Fire Trucks and then there is a wonderful Christmas Market at the end of the street
This small town by a lazy river is a wonderful place to live and raise your children. My husband and two boys have lived here for 23 years. The schools are great with lots of sports activities. The crime rate is almost non-existent. I would invite everyone to come visit and maybe decide to stay a while.
I hope to see you walking along First Street sometime this month with kids or dogs or both enjoying a wonderful Sunday afternoon with the ducks, geese and all our friendly towns people. Stop a minute and say HI
