Helpful Tips for Holiday Cheer on a Budget from Dianna Mandzuk

Mug of mulled wine in front of a shining christmas tree

If you’re heading out to a party and need a last minute gift or perhaps are throwing a party yourself and want tasty wine for your guests that won’t break the bank, here are 3 quick tips to help you spot the wines that taste twice as expensive as they cost:

  1. Look for wines from warm regions, like Argentina and Chile. Often the cost of production is cheaper because winemakers aren’t battling disease, rot and weather as much as cool climate producers do. Therefore, there’s less crop loss and lower costs for production.
  2. Seek labels that have illegible gothic script and impossibly long names that are difficult to pronounce. Few people can read them, so they don’t buy the wines and demand doesn’t push up prices. Think German Riesling.
  3. Try grapes that aren’t well-known such as Portugal’s tinta roriz and tinta barroca. They make great wine but don’t have the “brand awarness” and cachet of cabernet sauvignon, merlot and chardonnay. Therefore, producers must compete more aggressively on price.

I hope theses tips make your holiday a little more merry and your wallet a little less light, and if you’d like to use these tips as a housewarming party, but need a new house first, give the Dianna Mandzuk Team a call, 905-433-2579, because when you work with us the Results Will Move You!

Thanks Dianna for the heads up.  Don't forget about the Kiwi's and Aussies when picking wines.  Both New Zealand and Australia have a pretty decent wine industry and with reasonable prices.

You may have already heard this joke. What did the grape say when the elephant stepped on him? Nothing, he just let out a little wine. Happy Holidays!
