Merry ChristmasPaying It Forward:  Goodwill Towards Goodwill & Others!

'Tis the season!  Bells are ringing!  Can you hear them?  If so, chances are it's the Salvation Army folks ringing their bell for the kettle!  Now my philosophy is simple on that.  If they can stand their freezing their Christmas buns off, the least I can do is drop a little something in the kettle!

And our local food pantries are in need of help, so a few extra dollars at Kroger's to the Shared Harvest organization is easy.  We tend more towards lots of small trips to the grocer rather than a monthly cart buster, so we chipped in to Shared Harvest a couple of times this week.

And today after church we just made a multi-trip haul to the local Goodwill on SR 123 just east of Lebanon.  Roller blades we don't use, two bikes, old LPs (that's the predecessor to CDs for you young 'uns.....and CDs are what came before digital!), clothes and a bunch of other things too.  Amazing what happens when you decide to declutter your life a bit!

So 'tis the season to give back to your community a bit.  Pay it forward however and wherever it works for you!

A quote from our friend in North Carolina:
"I do not share my stories of paying it forward for recognition.  I share them so that others might be inspired to do what they can, when they can, where they can.  No more, no less."  Tish Lloyd, North Carolina REALTOR®

Hi Liz and Bill in North Carolina-I'm a big believer in the Salvation Army and I think they do good work and work hard doing it! Throw the money in the kettle!

Joanna, It's an easy call.  They're volunteering there time and this time of year, it's pretty chilly standing outside ringing the bell.  We need to make it worthwhile for them :)

Bliz,

They just opened a Goodwill here in Crofton, making it very easy for us local folks. Our office is supporting two food banks and the Toys for Tots program. It's all good...any time of year.

Rich, For a smaller town, somehow we wound up with TWO Goodwill stores.  Dayton chapter built one, and so did Cincinnati.  They both stay busy!  And giving all year round is a definite around here.

All terrific ways to continue giving towards your community BLiz.  I just went last weekend and dumped a big load of clothes to the goodwill.  They don't do me any good by sitting in my closet :)!  I completely agree with you for those Salvation Army folks too...God Bless them, although I am quite sure it's worse for them where you are at, lol :)!

Brenda, It was the same for us.  Stuff in the basement we'd never use again, just taking up space.  Might as well let someone else get some use out of it all.

Bliz,

You forgot the jump from LP to 8-track to cassette.  I know it was short lived but, I did have a good run with it until someone broke in my car and stole my player and tapes.  Guess they were Billy Joel fans to.

A good opportunity to clean out and de-clutter might just make someone else's day.  Good way to pay it forward BLiz.

Anita, Good for our basement to get rid of the clutter, and good for Goodwill to raise some more funds :)

Goodwill (4) locations & Options (for abused women and children), my favorite two.  Here is a tip for all.  I have a donation box in my garage, every time I buy something for myself, I go around the house and pick something to go in the box - It's amazing how quickly it fills up and very grateful to be in a position to give.

Ellie, Nice idea!  Keeps your home balanced and stuff doesn't accumulate.  For me, it's often clothes I buy, and after a few rounds of wearing it realize I don't care for it as much as I thought I would.  In the bag for Goodwill :)

Just the other day I was complaining to my husband about not having a button that says "I gave" so those bell ringers would know...and he said..."really Cindy, you're going to whine about giving change or a couple of dollars every day in December to help people"....<hanging my head> I got the point...
