This years Holidays and Heroes in Post Falls Idaho, was a huge success! The firefighters and police officers were able to help over a hundred families. The Holidays and Heroes program helps needy kids in the Post Falls, Rathdrum, Spirit Lake, and Coeur d'Alene area.
Each officer volunteers their time to take a child to local Walmarts to pick out gifts for their families. The children were very excited to be able to go through the store and add things to their carts. The officers help the children pick out presents for thier families and stay on budget, and while the children aren't looking the officers pick up presents for them too.
"A lot of these kids, they don't think about themselves, but their families. I've not once, for six years, seen kids being selfish," said Sgt. Sam Abrahamson of the Coeur d'Alene Tribal Police Department. The children are mainly focused on making sure their siblings have a great Christmas.
Officers and firefighters aren't the only ones who donate their time. Dep. Jason Shaw brought his wife Cheryl Colligan and daughter Avery Colligan along to help as well. Dep Erik Hedlund brought his wife Sarah too.
After the children finish shopping, the volunteers take them to Greyhound Park, where their presents are wrapped and the children get to meet with Santa. This program is made possible because of the generous donations made by our wonderful community. For more information on this year's Holidays and Heroes success story, visit the CDA press here.
