Spirits Of Gettysburg Gerry The Virtual Pub
This week we made a trek over to York, Pa to check out Mudhook Brewing Co. Mudhook is a new brew pub that offers craft beers and pub fare. Before we get to the beers let me give you a little background on Mudhook Brewing Co.
A mudhook is an anchor, and that fit perfectly with the concept that the owners wanted, an anchor place to go for the folks of York. Alas, Mudhook Brewing Co. was born. The location couldn't be better being attached to the Central Market, and the pub itself was warm and inviting, with a crisp, clean decor I was immediately at ease.
Mudhook Brewing Co offers a nice variety of beers, as you can see we started off with the full fight, giving ourselves a chance to sample all the beers before making a choice for a pint. I especially enjoyed the Steam Ale, very clean and crisp. I miss my days in SF when I could get Anchor Steam on tap...this was a very competent replacement. This is a seasonal brew and not always available. I was lucky to have been able to get a pint or two of this nice Steam ale in.
What I finally settled on was the Deep Sea Stout, surprise, surprise. The Deep Sea Stout is a classic stout, with strong chocolate and roasted barley coming right at you. It pours nicely with a strong tan tight head, I enjoyed this stout so much I took home a growler for enjoying the next day. A very fine stout and a classic example of what a solid stout should be. Very bold, but not too bitter, a nice smooth aftertaste. Very satisfying.
Mudhook Brewing Co is fine addition to the craft brew family that is quickly growing in our southern Pa area.
