Toys For Tots began in 1947. In 1995 the Secretary of Defense authorized Toys For Tots as an official mission of the US Marine Corps Reserves. In 1996 the commander of Marine Forces Reserve authorized Marine Corps League detachments and other local organizations to assist in the program. Numerous Redding and Shasta County businesses host dropoff locations and pickups of new unwrapped toys.
