Occupy a Job Instead

By
Services for Real Estate Pros

There was once a Seinfeld episode where George Costanza was trying to extend his unemployment benefits for another month or so. He was working all kinds of games in his attempt to buffalo the unemployment counselor. Jerry made the comment that George was working harder at collecting unemployment than he would at a job. Resembles the Occupy people to me.

Whether they are employed or unemployed, they are working pretty darn hard at protesting. I mean come on, anyone who has ever been camping knows that setting up a tent, and then a complete camp site is not easy. In addition, there are the neighbors to contend with. If you have ever set up camp next to a loud group of all night partiers, you know of what I speak.

Standing in a free food line does not look or sound fun to me. It is cold outside and the food cannot be that appetizing. Plus the line is long and there is realy no where to eat. Add to that the dealings with law enforcement. Keeping on the move in order to stay ahead of them must be a real chore. I mean where do you find all of the rocks to throw?

Finally the whole sign thing. I would think that in order to succeed at protesting and impress your Occupy friends, one would have to continually come up with new signs, and that would mean thinking up new slogans and sayings to put on the signs.

Sounds like work to me.

I get what your saying. If they put as much energy into a different area they could help themself and others just as much.

Kevin - LOL  Ok, I too understand what you're saying but I bet you would be shocked and amazed at how much time and energy many of those folks have put into a job only to be still unemployed after years of trying and looking.  I predict a lot of those folks have the time and energy because their unemployment benefits have long since run out.

I personally know dozens of people, smart, educated, hard working people who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own.  These folks have made looking for a job a full-time job.  I shudder to think what will happen to these people when their unemployment benefits run out and they also still don't have a job.

Newt's comment to take a show and occupy a job was PRICELESS!  I've worked since I was 16 - I was out of work for 2 months when I moved from Hawaii to NoCA....I could not wait to find a new job and be productive.

Donna * Jason * they need to be at local community college or other educational institution and getting their SKILLS updated.  Why anyone is unemployed with the RETAIL Help Wanted signs out this time of the year is beyond me.

If I did not have a job, I'd be working retail to keep busy and NETWORK!

I know a few welfare scammers and they also work very hard.  Putting a lot of effort into the whole elaborate scam so that they get token free money of a few hundred dollars at best.  If only these people would learn to think for themselves.

I know that it is hard to find a job in many places, but unless you put real effort into it, your not going to have any luck.

The flaw in your logic is that crony capitalism and a failed monetary policy are not resolved by individuals procuring employment opportunities.

We are in a changed world.  And that world includes a government that wants millions of immigrants to the US to come across our borders.  It includes Fortune 500 companies that are requesting tens of thousands of visas for workers from developing countries such as India, China, and from Africa, Asia, and South America.  These are the companies new areas of business.  They need people to speak the local languages.  Our world also includes the ability of our government to create bubbles that give it and its cronies more power and money, while taking from the middle class and poor when they bust.  It includes new technology that needs less "human" help to be developed and used in society.

All in all, unemployment is going to continue until the excesses in our system are flushed out, or we lose alot of people on the earth.  You pick which you think government prefers- think war.

Newt hit the nail right on its head and said "occupy a job" -  how odd people will work harder not to is a wonderment to many - but not liberals.

I've kind of got mixed feelings on the whole thing. I wish that they had one message that would resonate with the country. Personally I can't imagine not taking any kind of job just to be busy. Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas!
