Does Your House Have Ghosts?

Well, I just finished reading an article written by Gina Roberts-Grey for the National Association of Realtors, Realtors Magazine about selling a home with ghosts.

Ok so a little giggle came to mind. Hummm......Although I'm not so sure I believe ghosts are hanging around the house, since I have never experienced this, it can be a real issue for some buyers. "Haunted Homes" fall into a category under stigmatized property and can possibly reduce the value of the property.

A stigmatized property is site of a murder, suicide, alleged haunting, or other para-psychological phenomenon.

Most states, about 1/2, have laws addressing a stigmatized property but most don't require the seller to disclose they have a "Ghost". But in the best interest of all, I would highly suggest that the ghost be disclosed regardless of whether or not there is a requirement to do so.

So have you ever listed or sold a haunted home? I would be interested to hear your story.

It is not required to disclose a ghost unless you wish to spend time on the couch.

Interestingly enough, we had to learn this in NH as part of the portion of licensing re: stigmatized properties.  NY is a state that requires Ghost/Haunting disclosure...NH does not.   Sorry Erv, the folks in NY do require this....maybe the Amityville Horror spurred this on, who knows.  I found this website for grins:  http://www.amityvillehorror.com/

Spooky stuff!   ha ha   Caroline
