Mental exercise for the Searcy Sleuths. Another old Searcy site goes down.

Believe it or not, today I received a call from a business associate and he called to give me a blog topic.

I asked what it was and he said __________________ was being torn down as we spoke.

Now I could fill in that blank but that would not make the minds of the Sleuths work.  I hustled over and took a snapshot of the demise of this building and thought I'd put it out and see if any of you recognize the remains.

Here's the very artistically arranged photograph.  Guess we need the Googleman to show us how it used to look.

Don, to get that picture did you do a history on Google?  Gotta learn how to do that.

Well Barbara has got me thinking. The location is East Race and Davis Dr. but someone described Tastee Freez as being on the South side of E. Race where you remember it and someone else said the Dairy Queen replaced Tastee Freez which is on the North side of E. Race. Someone jump in here and help us out. I don't know either place. I think the place that you show being demolished is the old Dairy Queen I show.

Googling history takes time and patience and getting the right search word. I always try differend words and phrases. It's interesting that any search of Searcy invariably causes the first Google entry to be something from one of Barbara's blogs. That means Barbara, that your blog is a big contributor to the written history of Searcy. Well done, my dear.

BTW, that Tastee Freez picture came from your  8/10/2010 blog referenced above.

Don, thanks for the nice remark about my blog being all out there on the net.  The true history, however, comes from you Sleuths who provide the "rest of the story."  I just try to have a lead-in and your comments and additions are what make the blog.

Keith Cook, what are you doing with the DQ sign?  Another question about Dairy Queen.  Did this DQ replace the one on Park Street?  Were there two in town?  Just curious.

The Tastee Freez was on the north side of Race St. about across from Wendy's.  A little east of there was a bread company where trucks loaded, then somewhere in there was a bowling alley, etc.  I am not sure if there was a different Tastee Freez before the aforementioned one or not.

There was only one Dairy Queen at a time, as far as I can remember.

Mary, I stand corrected.  I got the Tastee Freez and Frozen Delight mixed up.  Thanks.

I'd love to lunch with the sleuths - I'd even wear a hat! But I live in Little Rock and I think some eyebrows would be raised if I disappeared for three hours over lunch.

Debbie, thanks for the hat compliments on behalf of little Luke. I wear a fedora every day, but not the one in the photo - that's my vintage 1940s hat for special occasions. (Pictured during the Christmas when my wife gave it to me - hence the festive tree in the background)

Oh, and Barbara/Sleuths, allow me a moment to shamelessly plug my own blog, which I have started updating again. You can find it here.

Don:  Would LOVE to be there but alas, we will be on our way to Memphis to spend a few days with Bill and Cheryl...before going to Wheeler Lake in Alabama, with our son and dtr.in.law to fish for those BIG cats!  He caught one weighing over 70 lbs. last year.

Luke, my husband Bob wears a Fedora, too.  He calls it his "indiana Jones" hat.   LOVES it.

Barbara, the Dairy Queen where I would get mother's Buster Bars, was on Race....and looks like the one in your picture, when it was the Dairy Queen.  She would also buy boxes of them, to put in her freezer.

Larry, thanks for that picture and for giving me the tip about the tear-down.  You are probably as good as Don with the Googleman.  Perhaps you can be voted into the Sleuth group.

Don, I'm sorry I can't attend the Sleuthfest on Friday but I had made other plans.

I appreciate all the contributions about this building.  My mind is still fuzzy but getting clearer.

Mary, I remember having to walk Race Street asking for donations for some cause when I first arrived in Searcy. They took advantage of a "newby."  I only remember one pleasant thing about the walk and that was visiting with Billy Ball at his little business.  He was so nice and made me feel welcome.  That is why I remember his being on the North side of Race.

Luke, I'm going to visit your blog now.

Mary, thanks for the compliment.

I feel like we already know each other.  This blog has introduced me to others that I would have never gotten to know otherwise.  Take care.

Barbara,

The sign is sitting in my shop gathering dust right now. At one point there were two DQ's in town, Ralph Charles Burns had one on Park St, and one out on Pleasure St, I worked at that one in high school.

Debbie and Don and Luke and Paula, hope you had a fine lunch.  My ears did not burn so I guess I wasn't discussed.  LOL

Ludean, I'm glad the blog helps with relationships.

Keith, why don't you take a picture of the old sign, send it to me and I'll put it on this blog.

Luke and I did have a wonderful time visiting with Don and Paula.  They are delightful.  Luke would have stayed all day listening to Don talk about his workshop.  We would love to visit with them again.  Only good things were said...did your head swell?

Ms. B...I don't think we would have ever entertained the idea of anyone else assisting us in finding our home but you.  We had observed you from a distance for sometime.  You were just meant for that job and we are SOOO glad that you were glad to accept the chanllenge.

Debbie, I'm glad you had a good time with Don and Paula.  If Little Luke could really get to be GREAT friends with them and they'd take him with them on their numerous trips, he'd get a worldwide education!!  And I am very glad yu watched me from a distance and approved.  You can spy on me anytime.  LOL
