                                                     city of nixa

I grew up in Kansas and my husband is from South Carolina, so how did we end up in Nixa, MO?  You would be surprised at how many people move to Nixa from all over the country.  Being a realtor, I have sold homes in Nixa to people from Wisconsin, Florida, California, Las Vegas, and other areas.  We moved to this area due to my husbands employment and the close proximity to my Kansas roots.

I got to thinking about how little I knew about the history of Nixa.  Since we have lived here (17 years), I have been aware of the growth of our community etc...  But I never really researched any of the history.  An agent friend of mine gave me a book titled Christian County History A to Z From One End to the Other by Wayne Glenn to read.

Nixa is the largest populated district in Christian County, but was actually a late bloomer in development compared to Ozark, Billings, and Sparta. It was originally a dusty intersection between Springfield and Northern Arkansas and Ozark and Mt. Vernon.  Nixa's origins go back to the mid 1800's with the movement of farmers and traders into this fertile soil region of Southwest Missouri.  The growing community became known as a "crossroads" or stopover site to and from Springfield.  The name NIXA comes from Nicholas A. Inman, a prominant leader in the town and from the fact that it was "a crossroads".  One of our Middle Schools is named Inman, which both of my children attended.SkiingNixa is located 10 miles south of Springfield, MO and 30 miles north of Branson, MO and Table Rock Lake on Highway 160, just 4 miles west of Highway 65.  It is one of the fastest growing cities in the state and is located in Christian County which is the 66th fastest growing county in the United States!  Our population is a little over 20,000.

Nixa is a wonderful community!  We have loved living in Nixa and I am so thankful that my kids grew up here!! I am going to continue to research more about our wonderful Nixa community!

great post, got me thinking about some of the places I have lived, KS being one of them, SW MO really is an American melting pot of transfers from other great states!  cw

I agree with Cheryl. Having the background that I do I have moved to a lot of different states, so when we moved here I now call this home. Great insite to a great town.
