That Blog kills me.  I lived in Punta Cana for 1/4 of each year for several years and worked part-time as a broker there.  Now, I've been stuck up in New York and haven't been able to travel south in 3 years.  Seeing these photos makes me long for the tropics and its attendant lifestyle change.  Beautiful.

Dennis,

Wow Ambergris Caye has grown. I was there in the 80's. There was just a small landing strip. We walked from airport to a hotel on the beach with thatch roof rooms. The condo looks nice. Has the unrest in Mexico helped with sales in Belize?

Hi David, I haven't been to Punta Cana yet but hope to very soon. I know before the recession it seemed that PC was set to take off. Have't heard much about it in the past few years. From the pics I see it sure does look good.

The market here in Belize has taken a little bit of a hit due to the recession but not as bad as some areas. I lot of my clients in the past 2-3 years have been from Canada (especially Alberta) where the oil money has kept the economy alive and well. We've done very well with clients from that area. Plus, it seems like Canadians in those cold regions are looking to escape the cold!

If you've never been to Ambergris Caye come on down. I'll show you around. Who knows maybe there is some business we can do together. I have several brokers in the U.S. and Canada who I work very close with. They promote Belize and refer clients to me and then I take things over from there.

Anyway, take good care and if things get too COLD up there just remember, you've got a friend in sunny Belize who has a cold beer waiting for ya!

Hi Nicole,

Yeah...Ambergris Caye HAS grown a lot since the 80's. There is more traffic now in San Pedro Town and we do have some paved roads. The airstrip is now paved and Tropic Air has a large beautiful terminal. But I think if you come on down you'll still find that it has that San Pedro charm that it always had. Things do grow here but they grow slowly....

Town itself is pretty busy but go 1/2 mile north or south of it and its quiets right down.

I don't know if we are getting any direct fallout from the problems Mexico is having. My clients haven't mentioned that they are coming to Belize because of the issues there. I think many are just researching tropical areas to buy in and come upon Belize because its English speaking and foreigners can own property here. Plus, the country really has 2 major components to it. The mainland where prices are cheaper (and there is a reason for that) and the islands. About 90% of my clients are choosing the islands for their Caribbean feel.

Overall the market is good and sales are up. The U.S. recession did affect us but since about April of this year I've seen many of the higher end buyers come back. For a good solid 24 months all that was selling was lower priced vacant land and cheap beachfront land (around $100k for a building lot). Now the beachfront condos in the $350,00 to $550,000 range are starting to sell again. I'd say thats a good sign.

Hope things are going well for you. If you ever make it down here again look me up. Our office is right across from the airstrip. You can't miss us.
