I read an interesting post today.  Featured on Active Rain, it was titled "Are You the Chauffeur Driving Online Traffic to Your Real Estate Competition?" and was well written by Andi Grant in Long Beach, California...

Ken Tracy

The post questioned whether it was a smart move for agents to add widgets to their blog or website linking to the outside real estate websites Trulia and Zillow.

After reading the post as well as the long stream of comments (I was comment #53), I was amazed at the bad feelings many real estate agents harbor towards both companies.  Frankly, I don't get it...

I don't look at Trulia or Zillow as the competition...

I believe they are marketing platforms which I can use.  I use them to sell myself, as well as my listings...

And I can do it for free.

Ken, like you, I certainly don't view Zillow or Trulia as the competition.  However, I think I will stop by and read Andi's post for a different perspective.

I don't see zillow or truilia as the competition, either. I agree with you. These sites can be useful tools.

I don't see them as "competition" per se...but I can see a future where their business extends to generating leads through our listings and then selling the leads back to us. This is what I have heard complaints about. For me, I don't worry about it. I don't care who sells my listings.

Hi Debbie and Ken. Thanks for stopping in! I have gotten leads from both sites, and they don't require us to pay them... Plus my clients like the sites, so why fight them? Thanks again! Ken

Hi Ken, I read the blog you are referring to and can't remember if I commented or not.  As you know, I am just learning to use Social Media for leads and online marketing but I do use Zillow at times for market information.  Again, so many useful tools to choose from and so much to learn.  Thanks for your positive insight on these websites!
