Mama, sing Santa! Mama, talk Christmas! Mama, LIGHTS! my neighborhood, LIGHTS! Snowman! Jing-a-bells, Jing-a-bells, Jing-a-all-the-way! I'm smiling just writing this. Thank God for Helena and our family's rediscovery of the simple joys of Christmas.
Countdown to Santa! My daughter Helena's 3rd official Christmas is just 9 days away and she is SO excited. While I'm certain that my teenage children are also excited about Christmas and are "counting down" in their own way, I have smiled every single day for the last few weeks as I watch our 2 year old discover Christmas for the first time. She doesn't remember last year's festivities and lately it's like we've opened a window on a whole new world that just amazes her.
Rejoice, Rejoice and lift up your voices. We sing "Here Comes Santa Claus", "Jingle Bells" and "Rudolph" over, and over, and over in the car. The louder the better. Don't know the words, make 'em up.
Mama see more lights pleeeeessee? I may complain from time to time that it is dark at 4:00pm. Helena just begs to see "more lights!" as we drive through neighborhoods alive with twinkling houses, trees, Santas, reindeer and elves. I wonder what she thinks has happened to everyone's houses? Will the lights stay on from now on? Can we add more lights?
Then, there's the snow. Since our unseasonable dump of snow on Halloween, Helena squeals with delight at even the hint of snow. She said, "Mama, Snowman is my friend", and sang the Barney Best Friends song. I've cried in delight and say a prayer to thank God every single day that I have another shot at this whole Mama thing....even starting over at 45 has been a blessing.
This weekend we'll put up our Christmas tree with the whole family! Erich gets home tonight from a week long biz trip to CA (yippie), Julia is home from her first semester at UVM (whew!), Hannah got her first high school report card today (all A's!!) and we're 9 days from Santa's arrival. We'll fa-la-la-la-la our way around the crazy tree stand, the strings of lights and the "do you think it'll stay up this year" discussion. (We've crashed at least 2 trees in 3 years). And...we'll love it. More pictures to come! Merry Christmas!!!
