It is that time of year again with the holiday parties, time to get ready to connect.  Here is a great blog on tips to networking at those parties.  If you missed this the first time, it has some great pointers and ways to maximize connecting with people at the holidays.

Holiday time we always attend a lot of parties, gatherings, meeting new people, we are out and about and getting ourselves out there. Besides catching up with the past clients, current clients and friends, we also talks about the Real Estate market to keep everyone in the loop of the current market condition.

Here are some tips I have personally found useful when I go to dinner parties, gatherings, networking events or any situations that have other people that I don't know.

6 Must Haves for Successful Networking:

  1. Positive Attitude: Must have a great attitude, put any problems or what had happened in the previous hours away before coming to a gathering. Others can sense your positivity and energy. Put your best foot forward.
  2. Business Cards: Keep your business cards in good condition, if you keep the business cards in the wallet, make sure there is no lint or creases from the wallet. Keeping cards in a card case will be ideal.
  3. A note pad: Write down any specific details you would like to remember about the person you just met. This way it will keep you in track of your conversation if you need to follow up, it will be helpful. Be sure not to write it while you are talking to them, it can be considered rude at some culture.
  4. Open Mind/Eyes and Ears: Go and get to know others and be curious of others' interests. Observe what others are saying and doing by listening and watching. Have no preconceptions.
  5. Full Attention: Try to turn off your cellular phone or blackberry, give the person you are getting to know the most attention as you would like others to do the same for you.
  6. Lastly, a great opening introduction of yourself, maybe something other than you sell Real Estate or an Real Estate agent, if you have a passion or hobby, talk about it. This can vary from event to event, but it is good to be brief and give the person a good idea of who you are or what you want to be to them.

Happy Holidays!
