North Korean Leader Dead at 69

I note that Kim Jong II, leader of North Korea has died.

Stratfor, a global information provider, states that Kim's third son, Kim Jong Un, will succeed his father.  This assumes that the Korean military will continue to support the family in power.  Because of Kim Jong Un's youth and inexperience, his uncle, Jang Song Thaek, is expected to be the power in Korea for the coming years.

North Korea is viewed as a client of China and I would think there is an opportunity for the US to seek a closer relationship with North Korea.

The demilitarized Zone between North and South Korea remains one of the most heavily defended border areas in the world.  Abd the presence of nuclear weapons by Korea is seen as a desabilizing force in the region.

It will be interesting to view the next year and see what changes come to North Korea following death of Kim Jong II after 17 years in power.

From what I have read and heard the son is crazier than the father.  This scares me.  As a military family anytime this stuff hits the fan it effects my household directly. I guess we will have to see.

Looks like a good news / bad news scenario.  Crazy dad is gone, and nutso son now has his finger on the button.  Glad they're halfway around the world from Corona, California.

It will be interesting to see how to political climate of that region will unfold. I wish we would just pull our troops out of South Korea.

All we have to do to make friends is take out the only spot in North Korea that shows lights at night, and provide food and power to the rest of the country.  Problem solved.

That is not entirely tongue in cheek either.
