Understanding Grace by Tim Bento

Let's get something straight, the law has been fulfilled.  I believe when Jesus said in the gospel of John 19:30, "it is finished," He was talking about the Law.

Coincidencely the sacrifices of animals by the Jews ended around this time.

Hebrews 8 is one of the best chapters in the bible to know by heart.  It can't be any clearer from Hebrews chapter 8 that as a Christian we are not under the law.

Another book to understand the relationship between the expectations of the law and our faith in Christ is Romans.

We know that there are Christians who the Lord said in Matthew Chapter 7:20-23

“Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.

What were these believers doing that

caused the Lord to not extend His grace?

Well, Jesus says, “And then I will declare to them,

'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'

So the question becomes, what is lawlessness?

Hebrews 10 God says, “For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries. 28 Anyone who has rejected Moses’ law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29 Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know Him who said, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” [fn5] says the Lord. [fn6] And again, “The LORD will judge His people.” [fn7] 31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

If we are to take the whole council of God, the question must be asked,

how are we to live our daily lives in Christ?

We know 1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, [fn1] who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, 4 that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. 5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. 8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. 10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

Knowing that I am a sinner, saved by grace, I confess after every sin.  I have no un-confessed sin.

Lord, help me to see what still may be in me that I cannot see,

so that I can stand before you with a pure heart in eternity.

My understanding of the bible is the most important part of my life.  I filter everything through its pages before accepting it as truth or not.

I am a simple man.  Trying to understand what sin is, I only hope to show God my thankfulness for His grace, and live completely in Him.

Therefore I judge what I do simply this way, would I do the same if I were standing in His throne room? If the answer is yes, I am in His grace.  If no, I need to repent and confess and sin no more.

Just as the Lord said to the women caught in adultery, “neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.”

I love my enemies, I bless those who curse me, I do good to those that hate me, and I pray for those who spitefully use and persecute me.  I judge no one.  I show no partiality.

Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect?

The book of James is Gods guide to understanding the relationship between faith and works.

Yes, the Law is gone and has been replaced by our belief in the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

In Him and Him alone do we have salvation!

God only ask one thing to have eternal life, confess the name of Jesus and believe in His resurrection and you will be saved.

Everything you do from that point on will be because of your thankfulness, and love for Him and the price He paid to call you sons and daughters.

I have been trying to understand grace.  As the tears flow from my eyes, I can truly say,

I have a pure heart before God.

Thanks for taking the time to really help your audience understand grace.  I do think though we need to be careful that we do not leave out repentance.  Repentance is clearly taught in God's word.  Real confession will of course be centered around repentance but your audience needs that explained in my opinion.  God Bless, Paul

Thank you for taking a moment to suggest the importance of repentance.

I did mention repentance and believe that is the first thing God ask us to do when we realize we are out of His will.

Thank you for your insight.
