I just read an interesting article about Paint Color Trends for 2012. The article focused primarily on the paint color trends that the manufactuers in Canada are predicting for 2012. Since I am the owner of a Home Staging and Room Makeover business in Minnesota I need to pay attention to what happens in Canada...they are after all only a tank full of gas away from my Twin Cities home.
The 2012 predictions for hot colors include deep and vibrant hues like red, purple, and indigo. Pittsburgh Paints is predicting a similar pattern for the US.
Sico, a leading Canadian paint manufacturer had this to say, "The 2012-2013 paint colour palette is full of take-charge optimism" What a great quote. I want my New Year to be full of take-charge optimism too. Maybe I will paint an accent wall deep indigo on New Years day.
Oh and accent walls are coming back too! I am happy about that. When I meet with a client for a home staging consultation one of the things we often have to talk about is neutralizing really vibrant colors. For someone that loves reds and purples and deep indigos neutals can be interpreted as boring. With the help of a vibrant indigo accent wall, complemented by a buyer friendly light smokey grey as the main wall color everyone gets what they need.
You might wonder why a home stager would recommend "boring" neutrals when vibrant is all the rage. Well in truth, hot colors will only appeal to a small population. There are some people that really love to follow the trends in decorating and redo their home on a regular basis. But they are the exception, not the norm.
The most popular colors for the vast majority of North America home owners are neutral greys, greens, soft grey-blues, and browns. These colors work easily with most furniture upholstery and also reflect the colors found in nature which soothes the soul.
BEST WISHES FOR A NEW YEAR FULL OF TAKE-CHARGE OPTIMISM!
