Lewis and Clark Caverns Tour

Lewis and Clark Caverns, Three forks, MTThis is the season that the caverns near Three Forks, Montana are typically closed for public tours.  However, tis the holiday season when they have a few days for their candle light tours!

These caverns were found two centuries ago by a couple of ranchers, and then developed into an attraction that still causes awe and wonder.  I went the first time with my daughters’ class in school several years ago.  The path through the cave starts at the top and winds down through the hill underground with the exit a winding 2 miles and 2 hours below you.

Days for the candle light tours are limited, running only December 22, 27, 28 and 29, and only from 9:30 to 2:45 during those days.  Kids are $8 to age 11, and anyone older is $15!  It is a unique experience to view the formations by old fashioned flame, so plan a day and take the kids out for a holiday hike!

I drive through Three Forks a couple times a year, but I've never stopped at the caverns. Looks like I'll have to do it!

How wonderful is that to have such a natural wonder right at your back door!  If I lived anywhere nearby, it's something I would do (probably many times.)

Hello Jenifer:

Caverns that one can enter and exit without backtracking sounds like a great experience. To be able to do it by candle lite all the much better.

Wow, very cool, thanks for sharing.  Wish I were close to your area as this seems like an amazing experience. Do many locals take advantage of this experience or is this cavern mostly for tourists?

Hi Jenifer, I would love to be able to take a tour in these caverns, named after Lewis and Clark. A candle light tour sounds exciting, and lots of fun too.

I visited the caverns when I was 13 and as with a lot of things I saw as a child I think I took them for grante4d and wish I could see them again when I could really appreciate their glory. And what a great time of year to do it. I just wish I were close enough to go soon. Great idea.
