Colorado Springs, CO – I have had the opportunity to travel to many incredible countries around the world but every time I come home I marvel once again that I am fortunate enough to live in one of the most spectacularly beautiful places on earth, Colorado Springs, CO.
Colorado Springs, CO sits at the foot of Pikes Peak on the Eastern plains of the Rocky Mountains at an elevation of 6035 feet downtown up to 6900 feet at my home in Briargate. Living this close to the heavens we enjoy blue smog free skies year round with over 300 days of sunshine. Our alpine desert climate means mostly mild winters with the occasional blizzard followed by sunny days that rapidly melt the snow off the roads and sidewalks. Summer days are warm with spectacular sunsets that turn into cool evenings.
I love my home and the city I live in but like most of us, I get so busy with life that I often forget to stop and look at the magnificence of the mountains that surround me, or enjoy the beautiful weather and the people who live in my community.
To remind myself of my many blessings I’m going to write a series of blogs about the city I call home. I invite you to join me as I introduce you to Colorado Springs, CO and the people that make up the heart of my community. You’ll learn the history of a small western town that grew into a modern city with the help of the railroad, the military, and the computer industry.
The 2010 census shows that Colorado Springs, CO has a population of 416,427 people within the city limits and 645,613 within the metropolitan area making us the second largest city in Colorado and the 41st largest city in the U.S. That makes us the biggest little city in the West; a wonderful place to raise a family and the place I call home.
