There are several reasons why the Coachella Valley is considered a very pet-friendly environment. Much of it is cultural, as America itself has become much more animal-friendly over the past two decades. Most of us can remember growing up with our dogs considered outdoor animals, with their dog-houses, tie-poles and the whole nine-yards. Now, in 2007, when was the last time you even saw a doghouse?

Palm Springs and Indio both have no-kill animal shelters, dogs are allowed in many outdoor public areas, including outdoor cafes and coffee houses, there is a world-class off leash park near the Palm Springs Airport, the newspapers regularly run animal and pet features, and dog-friendly shops, grooming parlors and boutiques do a booming business.
There are pet photographers, pet painters, pet sitters, pet taxis, dozens of doggie daycares and rescue organizations, and the list goes on.
