Baby it's cold outside - and that can spell trouble for Clark County families in need. Operation Warm HeartFortunately, the "Operation Warm Heart" program helps low income families with the cost of their electric bills.

The program has helped 11,000 local familes over the past 26 years. The situation ranges from a single mom struggling to take care of her children, to an elderly person on a fixed income.

Last year, Operation Warm Heart helped 468 households keep the heat on. The average donation per family is about $300. That adds up to about $140,000 for the year.

Financial aid comes from private donors, utility customers and employees and area businesses. There are several ways to make a tax deductible donation to Operation December Season of Celebrations and Sharing - Operation Warm HeartWarm Heart.

You can include a donation in your utility payment and note the donation, or enclose a seperate payment. In addition, you can pledge a regular constribition amount to be included in future bills.

Baby it's cold outside - and one of the best things we can do to help Clark County families in need is to help them keep the heat on. Please consider a donation to "Operation Warm Heart."

Starting together in an urban environment, over the years we've gravitated towards areas with smaller populations and less density. Debb- it's so "heartwarming" to hear that Operation Warm Heart has helped 468 households have heat for the winter! These are the kind of Christmas stories I love and what it's really all about - giving, helping those less fortunate and donnating our time and/or money to good causes!

Debb,

When I hear people critiquing America and Americans, I always point to what America does in tems of its charitable organizations, and the many, many who donate anonymously to every cause.  We are a nation of warm hearts, and we are the first on the scene of any global disaster.  Accross the country as I read posts on AR that point of view is reaffirmed.  And it is one of the reasons, I love being an American. Debb, what a great program Operation Warm Heart is, helping those having low income with their utility bills!   Have heard of many families starting fires using alternative measures when they did not have heat.

OK, that's one of the nicest charities I've ever heard of. I'm actually going to my utility company and seeing if they have something like that here. Such a great idea.

Hi lovely Kris - hope you're having a wonderful countdown to Christmas. I too love these programs and stories about giving, sharing and caring for others.

Yes Deven, 26 years is pretty impressive isn't it? It's easy to give monthly for the program and know that you're helping others when it 'gets cold outside."

I hate feeling cold!  What a wonderful program that helps everyone stay warm!  That is a winner all around.  Every year one hears of deaths from people using unvented heaters or other unsafe means of trying to keep warm.

Alexandra - it's true. Overall, we really are a generous lot of caring and sharing people.

Joan, I know, or bringing in kerosene or other dangerous heat sources. :(

Hi Craig, good for you. Perhaps, you'll spear head a charitable program.

Marge, I agree it is wonderful to know people have the basics in our country. Shelter, heat and food should be givens.
