Many Islanders got their first taste of Marco Island by attending a convention at one of the hotels in the Gulf Condos and Hotels area (see map below for location). Here shops, restaurants, timeshares, and condos flank both sides of Collier Boulevard. The Collier County Convention and Visitors Bureau has lots of information and links to hotels.

The gated upscale condo commuity of Cape Marco at the southern tip of Marco Island is the former site of a US Defense Tracking Station which watched for missiles from Cuba back in the day.
