What is YOUR ODDEST Holiday Tradition?

My family, all 7 of us, have a very strange family tradition that started out of necessity and has lasted years.

It involves going to Southwinds Church in Tracy then to McDonalds.  Mcdonalds Tracy CA a Christmas Tradition

Yes I know strange custom indeed.

It started when the kids were little.  We would go to grandmas house to see cousins.  Grandma knew that we wanted to attend Christmas Eve service that started at 7:00.  Dinner was ALWAYS supposed to be at 5:00.  Some how the prime rib was never ready until 6:30, and we'd have to leave prior to eating dinner. (I wonder if this was intentional, after all there are 7 of us.)

We'd leave for church, the kids hungry but not yet starving, there had been plenty of snacks at grandmas.  This was 13 years ago, when this "tradition started".  The kids were 1, 4, 7, 10 and 13, they were starving when church let out and the only place open was McDonalds.

As the kids got older they could have waited, but even now, 13 years later I hear, "But it's Christmas Eve aren't we going to McDonalds?"  Granted the happy meals have been transformed into Mocha Latte's yet the tradition remains for my 14. 17. 20, 23 and 26 year old children.

What is your oddest Holiday Tradition?  Do you have one?

We do pretty standard stuff...we make a nice meal at home in the late afternoon after being woke up at dawn to open presents. My husband is a chef. This year's dinner is Dover Sole wrapped around lobster and oysters in a brown butter sauce. Thanks goodness he still likes to cook at home after cooking for a living. He says it relaxes him.

That is a riot. I have a tendency to not decorate so friends will drop off one ornament to add a splash of festivity !

WOW what a cook you have.  How lucky you are to have someone to cook for you.

Cheryl- that is pretty sneaky of you.

Too funny, Susan!   As our kids have gotten older a lot of traditions have come and gone.  The last few years we have had my husband's cousin and her family over for dinner.  Afterward we wrap stocking stuffers for each other.  Not my favoite waiting till the last minute!

I don't have any odd traditions, but I have gone to the San Diego Zoo on Christmas Day for 14 consecutive years.

DeeDee, you'd think my kids would be old enough to not need McDonalds, but it's just so silly they want to stop.

Jim - what a lovely place to be on Christmas Day.  Is it insanely busy or not so bad?
