CHRISTMAS... Thank God for the Commercialization!

giftwrapSpeaking as a dedicated Christian, follower of the Savior of the world Christ Jesus, I am so happy that Christmas has become extreamly commercialized.

In the USA nearly 90% of our citizens profess a Christian faith, I'm guessing that like myself you are among those 90%.

I would also guess that if you ask those who do not know Christ in the USA what are the two biggest holidays you would overwhelming hear Christmas and Easter. Easter

Many people think that Christmas has been taken over by Satan masquerading as Santa Claus and that retail has totally corrupted the meaning of Christmas. I say that Satan is doing a BIG ooops over his attempt to commercialize Christmas.

POP QUIZ! How many of you/us reading this can name 6 major Christian events and explain them to your children satisfactorily?

wonderlandAt least with the mass commercialization of Christmas no one can deny it's roots. No matter what kind of hermit or religious zealot of a non-Christian faith one may be the fact that December 25th is the day that Christians celebrate our Saviors birth can NOT be denied!

Equally important, the same can be said about Easter! The best thing about Easter is that everyone knows, even if they don't believe, is that it is the day that Christians celebrate our Lord and Savior conquering death and rising again to life.

So what about some of those other major Christian events? Here are a few that come to mind for me off the top of my head: Pentecost (did you know that Pentecost is the birthday of the Christian church), Ascention Day (did you know that Christ showed himself to all for 40 days after Easter Sunday before ascending up to heaven?), Epiphany (the 12th day of Christmas. It means sudden understanding. Yes even for many of his faithful followers it took 12 days to sink in as to the miracle of Christs conquering death.), Passover, Palm Sunday, Lent, Advent, Good Friday, and Maundy Thursday.

santaSo I say "Bring On The Commercialization"! Let the world know about all/more of the great events of Christianity! Christ will always out shine Santa and the Easter Bunny. I can live with slogans like "You won't get burned on our Ash Wednesday sale" or "Savings are in the palm of your hand this Palm Sunday".

Bring it on, bring on the commercialization so we will have more opportunity to tell our children about the roots of the holiday and how those roots are deep in Christ Jesus. Bring it on so we can share the good news that Jesus Christ is Lord!

Bob, I am among the 90%.  I do not believe Satan is commercializing anything.  We are the one's who buy into it all.  Like anything else, we just need to say no.  We all choose the values we teach our children.  Merry Christmas!

Amen Kathleen! The point of teaching our children about Christmas is rooted in the simple question... Mommy, why do we have Christmas? If it wasn't for the "in your face" "you can't ignore Christmas" attitude of the retailers Christmas would just be another Christian day like Epiphany or Ascension Day and it would only be celebrated by those knowledgeable and believing in Christ. As it is so "in your face" almost everyone including non-believers, celebrate Christmas. I do believe that Santa is the concoction of Satan. The story of Santa is totally unnecessary as gift giving was well established by the kings bringing gifts to the baby Jesus. Nothing is needed to add to the beauty or joy of the true Christmas story. I believe Santa only takes away from the beauty of the true story.

Thank You Michelle, I hope it was a wonderful Christmas day for you and your family. I am excited for 2012 and hope it will be a good year for you as well. I'd love to find the time in 2012 to bring my family to Florida and say hi on our way to Disney World.
